The Roland SO-PCM1 series is a line of "PCM cards" (also called "Waveform cards"[1]) produced by Roland. These are small cards containing waveform (sample) and patch data in ROM. They can be inserted into slots found on various JV series and JD series synths.

Cards

The following cards were produced:[2]

  • SO-PCM1-01 Piano Selections
  • SO-PCM1-02 Guitar and Brass
  • SO-PCM1-03 Rock Drums
  • SO-PCM1-04 Grand Piano
  • SO-PCM1-05 Accordion
  • SO-PCM1-06 Baroque
  • SO-PCM1-07 Orchestral FX
  • SO-PCM1-08 County/Folk/Bluegrass

Almost all the SO-PCM1 waveforms, patches and rhythm sets were incorporated into the SR-JV80-07 "Super Sound Set" expansion board, with the exception of SO-PCM-04, whose waveforms are built into the JV-90 and later.[3]

Compatibility

  • JV series: JV-80, JV-880, JV-90, JV-1000, JV-1080[2]
  • JD series: JD-800, JD-990[2]

The JD-800 can only use the waveforms on each card, not the patches, and does not support SO-PCM1-07 or SO-PCM1-08 because they are 2-megabyte cards.[2]
