It is a cost-reduced version of the Yamaha MU80 from the preceding year, with half as many parts and polyphony, no A/D parts (only unprocessed audio passthrough), no dedicated distortion effect unit, and less presets.
The Yamaha MU90 is the successor to the MU80 and the MU50.[3]
