Revision as of 00:24, 12 September 2024
The Roland SRX series is a line of expansion boards produced by Roland for Roland XV series synths. Some other Roland products are also compatible with them.[1] Each board provides new waveforms (multisamples) and instrument patches, and usually also rhythm sets (drumkits).
Its predecessor is the Roland SR-JV80 series, which is incompatible. Some synths have slots for both SR-JV80 and SRX expansions.[1]
The Roland INTEGRA-7 has the content of all 12 mainline SRX boards built-in.[2]

Roland Cloud VSTs
This article mainly focuses on the hardware SRX boards, however it is also worth mentioning the Roland Cloud VSTs. Roland started to provide these sounds in software using VSTs via Roland Cloud, the same subscription platform used to distribute many of their other analog and digital recreations of their legacy. However, the Roland Cloud SRX VST plugins have a few oddities worth noting:
- Platinum Trax and Supreme Dance got combined into one SRX, Dance Trax. This is presumably because Roland did not have a licence to distribute some of the samples used on the board in software form.
- Because each SRX board is its own VST plugin, you can't just combine sounds from multiple SRX to create a custom patch.
- Also because of the above, each SRX plugin provides the full XV VST waveform set, meaning one could purchase just one SRX card and load factory XV patches by editing the patch/bank files accordingly.
