Roland SR-JV80 series

The Roland SR-JV80 series is a line of expansion boards produced by Roland for Roland JV series synths, starting with the JV-80. Some other Roland products are also compatible with them, e.g. certain Roland XV series synths.[1] Each board provides new waveforms (multisamples) and instrument patches, and usually also rhythm sets (drumkits).

Its successor is the Roland SRX series, which is incompatible. Some synths have slots for both SR-JV80 and SRX expansions.[1] Many SR-JV80 boards' content was rereleased as part of SRX cards.

The capacitors on SR-JV80 series boards are prone to failure, which can be destructive, so it is advisable to replace them as soon as possible. In 2017, Roland Japan issued an official statement encouraging users to cease using the boards due to these issues.[2]

Notes:

  • The same waveforms are accessible on all synths.
  • Most SR-JV80 cards include two different sets of patches: one for the JV-1080 and later, and one for older synths like the JV-80. The JV-1080 patches take advantage of its enhanced effects. Only one patch set will be accessible on your synth; most patches are present in both sets.
  • Patches in the "JV-80" column below are also used on the JV-880, JV-90 and JV-1000. The JD-990 can also use them with the "Convert Load" function.
  • Patches and Rhythm Sets in the "JV-1080" column are also used on the JV-2080, JV-1010, and XP series.
  • Rhythm Sets in the JV-90 column also work on the JV-1000.
