The Roland SC-88 Pro is a Roland GS and General MIDI sound module in the Sound Canvas series, introduced by Roland in 1996. It retained the same form factor and design as the Roland SC-88, while making the following significant upgrades:

  • A new insertion/EFX effects unit was added alongside the existing reverb, chorus, delay and EQ units, allowing use of effects like distortion, compression and more on a per-part basis
  • Many new sounds and drumkits were added, including new versions of capital (GM) tones
  • The SC-88 and SC-55 sound maps were retained, and it is possible to switch back and forth between SC-55, SC-88 and SC-88 Pro maps on a per-part basis

The SC-88 Pro was succeeded by the Roland-ED SC-8850, released in 1999.
