The Roland XV-5050 is a down-sized version of the Roland XV-5080. It features half the polyphony and multitimbrality, it omits the sampling feature, omits a few other connectors but otherwise retains all other features, such as the COSM effects.[1]
It includes an extra preset bank (PR-H) not found on any other XV family of synths. It is also the first XV synth to feature a USB port on the unit.
Oddities
- Like the XV-5080, although it advertises having 3x MFX slots, patches may only use one slot, and performance mode must set the MFX parameters for all three parts upon loading the performance, as only one MFX slot can be written to by loading different patches in the performance. Some effects will use up enough processing power to render only one effect usable globally.
- The display is even smaller than the one found on the XV-3080, making editing significantly more difficult. It is heavily recommended that you use software like XV Editor for patch editing needs.
- The USB port is located on the front of the synthesizer and not on the back.
